Bio

Sarah Long currently serves as the assistant director for the Gateway Program Seminar at UCCS. In this position, she oversees 60 first-year seminar courses which encompass over 150 faculty and 90 peer leaders. Prior to serving as assistant director, Sarah worked as the Strengthening Institutions Program Manager at UCCS, where she was responsible for the development of sustainable high impact programming for low-income students attending the university. As Vice President of the Staff Association, Sarah hopes to cultivate a collaborative and cooperative environment in order to strengthen the supportive network across the UCCS campus community.

Sarah has been affiliated with UCCS since 2014 when she arrived in Colorado Springs from upstate New York, where she is originally from. In July of 2014 she sold everything she owned down to three trash bags of clothes, a box of books, and her two cats in order to venture across the country with no evidence of future success except for her acceptance letter from the UCCS Student Affairs in Higher Education graduate program. Since beginning at UCCS, she also has served as the graduate assistant for the Student Government Association, designed and taught courses for the Gateway Program Seminar and presented at Ignite Colorado Springs.

Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and theatre from the State University of New York at Oswego, a master’s degree from the University of Buffalo in psychology with a concentration in cognitive neuroscience, and a master’s degree from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in leadership. Currently Sarah is working on her Ph.D. at Colorado State University, where her dissertation research encompasses machine learning algorithm bias in higher education. In her spare time, she enjoys running and spending time with her kitties.
